Trademark Classifications

The Nice Classification (NCL), established by the Nice Agreement (1957), is an international classification of goods and services applied for the registration of marks. A new edition is published every five years and, since 2013, a new version of each edition is published annually.

The general classifications under the 2023 version of the 12th edition of the Nice Classification by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) which is in force from 01 January 2023 can be accessed at https://www.wipo.int/classifications/en.

Knowing which specific class to register your trade mark is vital since your trade mark registration will only protect your mark in the class identified in your application; hence, any one can potentially register the same trademark in a different class without any liability for infringement.

Accolade assists its clients in registering their trademarks in all relevant classes and in avoiding any instance of rejection of trademark application on the ground of wrong class registration.
